Guyana hospital eyes protocols after pregnant woman falls to death

A pregnant woman's fatal hospital fall prompts twin investigations and family outrage. Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation launched an internal probe after Marissa Eastman died from a fall within the facility. The twenty-two-year-old from La Parfaite Harmonie was around six months pregnant when admitted over concerns about her behavior.

A psychiatric evaluation upon admission reportedly showed no psychotic symptoms or suicidal ideation. Relatives question how a patient showing psychological distress accessed a third-floor window unsupervised. The hospital stated it will review patient observation and mental health monitoring protocols.

The Guyana Police Force has also opened an investigation into the death. Hospital officials offered psychosocial support to the deceased woman's family and affected staff members. The internal review aims to determine if safeguarding procedures need strengthening following the incident.
