A Harare resident received 140 hours of community service at Pimbi Clinic after being convicted of stealing $1,000 from a customer in a fraudulent livestock transaction. Webster Dhliwayo, 46, admitted to theft of trust property charges before magistrate Sharon Rakafa, who initially imposed a 12-month prison term but suspended eight months contingent on restitution and good conduct.
Pedzisai January of Whitecliff had sought cattle for breeding when he contacted Dhliwayo on September 6. After claiming to locate three animals for $1,000, Dhliwayo received $650 via mobile money transfer, followed by the remaining $350 the next day. When January attempted to collect the livestock on the agreed September 12 date, Dhliwayo avoided contact and never delivered the animals.
Authorities determined Dhliwayo had spent the entire sum for personal purposes without purchasing any cattle. The court ordered full repayment by December 12, with four months of the suspended sentence dependent on meeting that deadline.
