Judges have thrown out President William Ruto's appointment of new election bosses after he ignored court orders. The High Court ruled that Ruto broke the law when he published the names in the official gazette. Three judges said the president violated emergency orders that told him to stop the process. The appointments are dead in the water but the nominees can still get the jobs later. Ruto must start over with fresh paperwork before anyone takes office.
Activists Kelvin Roy Omondi and Boniface Mwangi had tried to kill the entire selection process. They claimed the panel picked the wrong people and broke appointment rules. The pair argued that disabled people got left out of the team. They also said some nominees lacked proper qualifications for the key positions.
