Intel's Core Ultra 245HX proves desktop chips are a joke

Intel's mobile processors are crushing their desktop siblings in performance battles that matter most to consumers. The Core Ultra 5 245HX laptop chip delivers massive gains over previous generation hardware while desktop variants stumble through lackluster upgrades. Arrow Lake mobile processors bring substantial improvements that desktop users can only dream about getting from their expensive new CPUs. Benchmark tests reveal shocking differences between mobile and desktop performance improvements from the same processor family. Computer enthusiasts are discovering that laptop chips offer better value than their desktop counterparts for the first time in years.

PassMark testing shows the Core Ultra 5 245HX demolishing its predecessor with a crushing 26 percent single-threaded boost. Multi-threaded performance jumps an astounding 38 percent higher than the older Core i5 14500HX despite having fewer processing threads available. The mobile chip scored 4,530 points in single-core tests and reached 40,059 points during multi-threaded workloads. Desktop Arrow Lake processors managed only 12 percent and 10 percent improvements over their predecessors during identical testing scenarios. Mobile Arrow Lake chips outperform their desktop cousins while consuming less power and generating less heat.

Gaming performance remains unknown for the new mobile processors but early indicators suggest significant improvements over 14th generation laptop chips. Arrow Lake mobile availability stays limited across retail channels while benchmark numbers slowly emerge from independent testers. Desktop Arrow Lake processors failed to beat previous generation gaming performance despite superior synthetic benchmark scores.
