Jallow kept Jammeh asset data on laptop, acted on verbal orders

Former Registrar General Alieu Jallow testified before lawmakers about asset recovery failures under the previous administration. His office physically examined just 36 properties from a court-ordered list of 131 assets linked to ex-President Yahya Jammeh. The sudden formation of the Janneh Commission disrupted verification efforts before completion. Jallow admitted to never requesting the supporting documents attached to the High Court order authorizing state recovery operations.

Parliamentary committee members questioned how authorities conducted evictions without proper ground verification. Jallow explained that verbal instructions from the Attorney General guided displacement actions rather than written directives. His team encountered resistance during one eviction at a Kololi residence belonging to Jammeh's mother and required paramilitary assistance. Officials relocated some displaced occupants to alternative government properties but maintained minimal formal records.

The former official revealed he stored inventory reports on his laptop without submitting duplicate files to the relevant ministries. Committee members expressed concerns about incomplete enforcement and inadequate documentation during the asset recovery process.
