Jefferson-Wooden grabs third gold in Tokyo thriller

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden secured her third championship gold medal by leading the United States women's 4x100-meter relay team to victory at the World Athletics Championships. The American quartet finished in 41.75 seconds, defeating Jamaica by four hundredths of a second on the final rain-soaked day at National Stadium. Jamaica's team earned silver with a season-best 41.79 seconds, while Germany claimed bronze in 41.87 seconds. Fraser-Pryce added another medal to her remarkable collection, bringing her total to 19 across nine world championships. Jefferson-Wooden expressed satisfaction with adding her name to the record books once again.

The United States dominated the championship's closing day by capturing four gold medals and securing first place on the medal table with 16 titles. Noah Lyles anchored the men's 4x100-meter relay team to victory after Jamaica failed to reach the final due to baton difficulties. American athletes also triumphed in both 4x400-meter relay events, with the women's team establishing a new championship record. Kenya finished second overall with seven gold medals, followed by Canada with three titles. The next World Athletics Championships will take place in Beijing in 2027.
