Kanja says cops gotta stick to the law

Kenya's top cop, Douglas Kanja, told officers they must follow the Constitution exactly. He said this helps cut down on bad public reports about police actions. Kanja praised his teams for serving citizens well and promised the police department would take better care of officer mental health issues.

He asked officers to help each other when problems arise at work or home and to talk to professionals when needed. Kanja shared these thoughts during his trip to the Laikipia County Police offices near Nanyuki. Several high-ranking officers traveled with him, including Deputy Inspector Gilbert Masengeli and spokesman Muchiri Nyaga.

Local police leaders Benjamin Bowen and Judy Kinara welcomed the visiting team. Kanja walked through many parts of the station. Later, he sat down with the officers who worked there. He ordered them to read up on both the National Police Service Strategic Plan and what the Maraga group found. He stressed how important it was to keep up with changes as police jobs move to computer systems.

The police chief also told officers they should plan early for when they stop working. He said smart money choices help their families later. Better planning makes police work better today and turns stations into great places. Other bosses at the meeting included Daniel Kitavi and Grace Kamau. Anyone with problems about police can tell the nearest station leader, the Internal Affairs office, or the Independent Policing group.
