Katuntu out as NUP eats Busoga seats

A quarter-century legislative career just evaporated due to a massive regional power shift. Abdul Katuntu surrendered the Bugweri County spot to Sadala Wandera, which marks the end of his long tenure. Returning Officer Flavia Nakasi announced that the National Unity Platform racked up huge wins. Paul Mwiru took Jinja South East Division from Richard Mbaziira and Nathan Igeme Nabeeta, while Timothy Batuwa held Jinja South West against Moses Balyeku.

Hussein Muyonjo transitioned from comedy skits to lawmaking after securing the Jinja North Division. The man known as Swengere stated that people deserve actual uncontrolled liberty. Sarah Lwasa Nsula ousted Manjeri Kibakutika for the Jinja City Woman role. Nasser Mudiobole defeated Peter Mugema to claim Iganga Municipality while Andrew Kaluuya took Kigulu South and Samuel Lukunguba Muteezo secured Kigulu North.

Big names fell hard elsewhere. Francis Oketcho beat Asumani Basalirwa in Bugiri Municipality which leaves JEEMA totally unrepresented. Stella Nankwanga topped Rachael Magoola alongside Amina Muteesi Nalugoda in Bugweri District. Independents cleaned up the Namutumba District completely. Betty Nakisiita, Persis Namuganza, Joel Waiswa, and Yona Kayogera all grabbed victories there without major party tickets.

The ruling party defended some turf. Aggrey Bagiire, Saleh Mpata, and Alex Ekoro won inside Mayuge District, where Lukiya Nakadama remained. Rebecca Kadaga kept her Kamuli District Woman position while Mastula Namatovu and Martin Muzaale won nearby. George Patrick Kasajja beat Gume Ngobi for Bulamogi North. John Odworu took Kagoma North while Peace Tibyaza won the female slot.
