KDF Focuses on DCI Match After Triumph Over Nairobi Prisons

Kenya Defence Forces volleyball coach Jackline Barasa has her eyes set on the upcoming match against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations as the playoffs approach after the fourth tournament leg wrapped up at Nyayo Stadium. Barasa praised her team for staying calm during their win against Nairobi Prisons. She explained they entered the match well-prepared and relaxed, spotting weaknesses in their opponents and using those insights to their advantage. Returning setter Milgreen Lituvula, who recently gave birth, highlighted excellent reception and service as crucial elements in their victory.

Despite nursing a knee injury, Lituvula pushed forward. As the most experienced player, she motivated her teammates to perform at their best and boosted their spirits. Her leadership proved valuable, considering she had just returned from maternity leave. The Nairobi Prisons coach admitted their team made several critical mistakes. He noted they closed the gap twice but fell short due to poor service, reception problems, and lack of coordination between players.

KDF finished their schedule with three wins, defeating Young Spykers 3-0 with scores of 25-3, 25-6, and 25-13. They also beat Kenya Army 3-1 with scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-19, plus scored a 3-0 victory against Nairobi Prisons with scores of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-13. Their single defeat came against former champions Kenya Prisons. The defending champions, KCB Bank, continued their winning streak with a 3-0 victory over Kenya Army during the fourth leg.

Kenya Army showed a fight in the first set led by Sheilah Kiplagat, but KCB secured a 25-18 win. KCB dominated the second set, forcing their opponents to call an early timeout when behind 5-11 before winning decisively 25-10. The final set saw Kenya Army battling to stay competitive, yet KCB maintained control for a 25-17 finish. KCB also received a walkover against Vihiga and had previously defeated DCI 3-1 with scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-13, and 25-19.

Young Spykers continued struggling, losing to KCB Bank 3-0 on Friday with scores of 25-8, 25-7, and 25-4. They suffered another straight-sets loss to Kenya Pipeline on Sunday, scoring just 25-2, 25-6, and 25-15. Kenya Pipeline, fresh from earning silver at the African Volleyball Championship in Uganda, remains undefeated at the top of the standings with 25 points after nine matches. Their weekend featured just one match against Spykers because both Vihiga and Maranatha failed to appear.

Prisons Nairobi also benefited when Maranatha didn't show up, with coach Kagiri expressing disappointment but appreciating the points awarded. DCI came out ahead against Postbank with a 3-1 victory in their match. DCI established momentum early by winning the first set 25-21. Postbank evened things up by taking the second set 25-21. DCI regained control in the third set with another 25-21 win before closing out the match after a tight fourth set that ended 25-22.
