Kebbi deputy governor wants to tackle meningitis now

Kebbi Deputy Governor Senator Tafida wants stronger action against meningitis in several local areas. He spoke at a health committee meeting on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi. The disease has appeared in Aliero, Jega, and nearby districts as officials prepare for routine vaccination programs.

Tafida asked local leaders and traditional rulers to educate the public about vaccines and keeping their surroundings clean. He welcomed new committee members and stressed Governor Gwandu's focus on improving basic healthcare. Health official Dr. Koko said the meeting came just in time for another round of shots against infectious diseases.

Teams are already working to stop meningitis from spreading further after it claimed lives in affected areas. Koko thanked the deputy governor for attending despite short notice. The committee includes people from health departments, environmental agencies, donor groups, traditional leaders, and local governments.
