President Ruto plans to visit the Ukambani area next month for a development tour. He wants to address important issues that affect people there. This follows a big meeting at State House in Nairobi on Thursday. Kenya Kwanza lawmakers and top officials from Ukambani attended this important gathering.
They discussed ongoing projects and checked what they had already done. They also discussed what needed to happen faster. Labor Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said Ruto wants to meet with community leaders from Ukambani in April. After these meetings, he will tour Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties.
The President hopes to build better teamwork among local leaders during his visit. He wants them to focus on bringing services and growth to the region. Ruto stressed at the meeting that everyone must work together as a team. He approved $5.2 billion for road projects in Ukambani in the next budget year.
Roads Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir promised to pay contractors with unfinished projects right away. He wants work to restart before the President comes to visit. The group also talked about starting a new college in Makueni County. Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse asked Ruto to give South Eastern Kenya University in Wote university status.
Mutuse said the President will come to Makueni soon to make it official. This will give local people their very first university. Mutuse also pushed for money to pave the Emali-Ukia road in the next budget. This road would help connect towns and boost business for communities nearby.
The leaders agreed they needed to stop fighting and start working together. Mutuse said all officials will unite to bring progress to their people. This marks a fresh start for Ukambani, where working together can solve old problems. In Kitui county, UDA MP Nimrod Mbai announced plans to pave the Chuluni-Zombe-Mwitika-Endau Road.
Many officials joined the meeting, including CS Mutua, Principal Secretaries Jonathan Mueke and Terry Mbaika, and National Security Adviser Monica Juma. Several senators and MPs also attended. Ruto plans to visit the Mt Kenya region for another development tour on April 1.
