Kenya and Malaysia go tariff-free, team up on chips and housing vibes

Kenya and Malaysia formalized multiple cooperation agreements after talks between President William Ruto and visiting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Nairobi. The pacts eliminate import duties on major Kenyan agricultural exports such as tea, coffee, flowers, and avocados while establishing partnerships in semiconductor manufacturing and technology education.

Ruto stated that Malaysia would assist Kenya in developing its semiconductor industry through collaboration with Kimathi University. The Kenyan leader noted his administration is studying Malaysian housing models alongside Singaporean approaches to inform domestic infrastructure development.

Anwar praised Kenya's affordable housing initiatives and expressed confidence in the East African nation's economic trajectory.
