Kwara lawmaker suspended for leaking secret session audio

A Kwara State legislator got a three-month suspension for secretly recording a meeting. The State House of Assembly voted to suspend Saba Yisa Gideon, the member representing Edu State Constituency, after he admitted to the action. He recorded a closed-door session and shared the audio with someone outside the assembly.

The House leader, Abdulkadir Magaji, brought the motion citing their internal rules and a privileges act. Multiple members from various constituencies debated and supported the suspension. The resolution stated the unauthorized recording could disrepute the entire legislature, calling it a breach of privilege and contempt.

Gideon's suspension is effective immediately. He was also ordered to submit a formal apology to the House within that three month period.
