A headmaster expelled a developmentally disabled girl from Masasi High School after her gang-rape video surfaced online, and the school administration concealed the February assault for seven months. The victim's mother said her daughter cannot read or write and lacks awareness of dates, and she learned about the attack only after villagers mentioned a video. Two male students, ages 16 and 17, allegedly drugged the girl and assaulted her in a bush on Feb. 8 before filming the crime.
Headmaster Kwembeya took no action until the video spread on social media, and the police arrested the suspects on Sunday, September 29. Community member Molline Muchato said the headmaster should be transferred for failing to report the serious crime to the authorities.
