The amendment adds section 173(a) to the criminal procedure code. Police commissioners and superintendents can order early investigation reports on cases under their control. The government also approved a draft agreement with the United Nations human rights office. UN High Commissioner Volker Turk visited Bangladesh and requested permission to open a local mission. The advisory council agreed to the proposal during their meeting. The UN office will operate for three years after both sides sign the final agreement. Officials will send the completed draft to Turk for his approval.
