Live patches keep Windows 11 running smoothly

Microsoft brings live patches to Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2 systems. These patches fix security issues right away without making you stop what you're doing. They work on computers with AMD or Intel chips and install much faster than regular updates.

These new "hotpatches" protect your computer from threats instantly. You can keep working because they don't need your computer to restart. Instead of twelve restarts each year, you'll only need four with this new system. That saves time and keeps work flowing smoothly.

The updates follow a three-month plan. You'll restart after updates in January, April, July, and October. These bigger updates add features and fixes. During the other months, you'll get hot patches that fix security problems without any restarts. This keeps computers safe without bothering users.

To use these updates, you need special things. Your company must have paid for Windows 11 Enterprise or Windows 365 Enterprise, and your computer needs version 26100.2033 or newer. IT teams must set up the updates through Microsoft Intune, which finds computers that can use hot patches and sets them upright.

The system works great on Intel and AMD machines already. ARM64 devices can try it early but need extra setup - IT teams must turn off CHPE through settings or a new control option. Microsoft made this system to help companies keep Windows safe with less hassle.

We think Microsoft plans to bring these restart-free updates to the Windows 11 Home and Pro versions later. This would make keeping your computer safe much easier since they would happen in the background without stopping your work or making you wait through restarts.
