Mahama's NDC repeats NPP galamsey failures, says Cudjoe

IMANI Africa founder Franklin Cudjoe has condemned the National Democratic Congress administration for its approach to combating illegal mining operations. The policy analyst accused the John Mahama government of repeating the same ineffective strategies previously employed by the New Patriotic Party. Cudjoe expressed his concerns through a social media platform on Thursday, July 17. He warned that citizens expect superior performance from the current leadership. The activist demanded concrete action rather than elaborate program names.

The 2025 budget allocated GH¢50 million for anti-galamsey efforts, representing a fivefold increase from the previous year's GH¢10 million allocation. Cudjoe rejected proposed initiatives such as the Blue Water Guards environmental protection unit. He emphasized that increased funding creates heightened expectations for measurable results. The critic dismissed what he viewed as cosmetic solutions to the persistent ecological crisis. Citizens deserve tangible progress rather than rebranded enforcement agencies.

Ghana continues struggling with widespread illegal mining operations that damage waterways and forests. Opposition politicians previously condemned the Akufo-Addo administration for failing to eliminate these destructive activities. The NDC campaigned on promises to resolve the environmental crisis once and for all.
