Malaysia forfeits three games, FIFA nixes fake ancestors

FIFA just hit Malaysia with forfeits for using ineligible players, giving them three automatic losses. The Malaysian football association confirmed the punishment, which wipes out previous friendly results against Palestine, Singapore, and Cape Verde. Seven players are suspended for submitting fake documents about having Malaysian ancestry.

The association was also fined over twelve thousand dollars on top of a previous larger penalty. The investigation started after a complaint about a match against Vietnam, where two of those suspended players scored. FIFA found none of the seven had a parent or grandparent born in Malaysia, breaking eligibility rules. This comes as Nigeria's football federation is also lodging a complaint with FIFA, alleging the Democratic Republic of Congo used ineligible players in a World Cup qualifier against them.
