Malaysia's health workers dodge longer shifts as Anwar caves to union pressure

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad celebrates a major victory for medical workers across Malaysia. The government granted special exemptions to five critical healthcare schemes under his ministry. These frontline heroes get to keep their current 42-hour weekly schedules instead of switching to longer 45-hour shifts. The minister publicly thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for backing healthcare professionals. Medical staff avoided what could have been a devastating blow to their work-life balance.

The exemption covers an impressive 82,637 healthcare personnel working in essential medical roles. Social nurses, emergency department medical officers, assistant medical officers and healthcare assistants all benefit from the decision. These workers face life-and-death situations every single day while caring for desperate patients. The Madani Government recognizes the physical, mental and emotional toll these jobs demand. Medical professionals sacrifice their personal time to save lives around the clock.

Multiple government departments worked together to reach the breakthrough decision for healthcare workers. The Public Service Department collaborated closely with unions, associations and various ministry divisions. The Nursing Division and Human Resources Division played crucial roles in securing the exemption. Healthcare worker concerns about the Public Service Remuneration System sparked intense discussions among officials. The minister promises more positive changes ahead as part of planned health reform strategies.
