Police officers from three Kenyan counties gathered with their families on Saturday for a special thank-you church service. The celebration took place at St Anthony's Cathedral in Malindi, bringing together officers from Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu. David Lusava, Deputy County Commissioner of Malindi, attended as the main guest at this yearly event. The ceremony thanked God for keeping security personnel safe throughout the year.
Bishop George Muthaka led the church service with help from local priests and chaplains from different security agencies. Members from many services joined the celebration, including the National Police, Forest Service, Prisons, Wildlife Service, and Youth Service. Everyone focused on the message "God strengthens and keeps me secure" from Psalms 18:32. The Bishop praised the officers for their hard work and reminded them to serve people humbly.
During his speech, Bishop Muthaka mentioned that the church stands ready to work with any groups wanting to build peace and security across Kenya. The event marked a change in leadership for joint religious activities among security forces. Kenya Wildlife Service finished its two-year turn running these shared programs, passing responsibility to the Kenya Forest Service for the next term.
Many important security leaders came to the ceremony, including the Regional Organizing Committee members. Also present were Peter Waweru, the Kilifi County APS Commander, and David Siele, who heads criminal investigations in Kilifi County. Grace Ndirangu represented headquarters detectives, Rodgers Gathuku came from Corporate Communications, and Father Jeremy Mwenda attended as Principal Chaplain, along with several other high-ranking officers.
