Tapiwa Felix Chikondo faces fresh criminal allegations following his arrest alongside religious leader Walter Magaya last week. A Zimbabwean court granted Chikondo six hundred dollars bail on Thursday after he made no plea to charges involving vehicle smuggling and fraud. Authorities accuse him of illegally importing a used Japanese Toyota Mark X last year and evading customs duties exceeding three thousand dollars.
Prosecutors allege Chikondo obtained false license plates by exploiting registration details belonging to another citizen. He reportedly paid a clearing agent fifty dollars to secure these plates before transferring the automobile to musician Ti Gonzi for five thousand dollars. Police later seized the vehicle in Mbare after determining it lacked proper import documentation and carried counterfeit plates.
Chikondo works as a security aide for Magaya's PHD Ministries. His defense attorney, Malvern Mapako, represented him during the Harare court proceedings handled by Magistrate Francis Mapfumo. The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority initiated the case, citing significant unpaid import taxes. Ti Gonzi lost both the car and his payment after authorities impounded the automobile in January.
