Manager caught betting away company cash

William Gonese, a 28-year-old shift manager at Bakers Inn, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison. During a single night shift, he stole US$3,420 from his workplace and used it to gamble online on the Aviator platform.

When William appeared before Harare Magistrate Ms Lynne Chinzou, he admitted to the theft charges. At first, the magistrate sentenced him to 30 months in prison. However, she suspended 12 months of the sentence for five years if William behaved well.

She also suspended another eight months of the sentence if William paid back the money he stole. In the end, William will spend 10 months in prison.

The court learned that William took the money from the company safe. He used it for online betting and planned to return the funds if he won. Sadly, his gambling plan did not work, and he was arrested and found guilty.
