Mnangagwa declares Dzivarasekwa crash a disaster

Zimbabwe's President Mnangagwa named the Dzivarasekwa crash a National Disaster after it killed eight people and hurt eleven others. The crash happened when a kombi driven by someone without a license smashed into both a haulage truck and a UD truck. This terrible accident took place where Bulawayo Road meets Dzivarasekwa Road on March 19, 2025, around 5:30 in the morning. The government plans to help pay for the funerals of everyone who died.

The President expressed his deep sadness for the families who lost loved ones in this crash. He hopes all injured people heal quickly from their hospital stays. Mnangagwa asked every public transport company and driver to stay alert, especially near road crossings. He wants everyone to avoid picking up or dropping off passengers at dangerous road spots like intersections.

Mnangagwa begged all drivers to stay safe and careful when behind the wheel. He stressed that road safety matters for everyone who travels anywhere. By Thursday, March 20, families had claimed and named seven of the eight bodies from the crash. One grown man remains unknown to officials or any family members who might recognize him.

This last victim waits at Sally Mugabe Mortuary for doctors to examine his body completely. The police hope someone will come forward soon to identify him. The President made his disaster announcement just one day after the deadly crash shocked the community. His statement came through official channels on Thursday as families began making funeral plans.
