Three important government leaders went to say goodbye to 25 people who died in a terrible crash. A bus and a big truck crashed into each other on the road between Beitbridge and Masvingo last Thursday.
Ministers Daniel Garwe, Felix Mhona, and Dr Evelyn Ndlovu visited Beitbridge. They wanted to help the families who lost their loved ones. The ministers went to see the place where the crash happened. They visited people who survived and were being treated at the hospital.
Many people came together at Dove funeral place to remember those who died. Everyone felt very sad. Minister Garwe told the families that the government would help them. He brought a message from President Mnangagwa who felt very sorry about what happened. The President said this crash was very serious, and the government would pay for all 25 funerals.
The families received coffins, papers for burial, food, and transport to take their loved ones home. Minister Garwe said it made him sad that many young people died. Most people who died were under 30 years old, and the oldest person was 56.
Minister Mhona asked his workers to find out exactly what caused the crash. He wants to ensure this does not happen again. He also thanked the people of Beitbridge for helping after the crash. They brought hurt people to the hospital and helped the doctors and nurses.
Dr Ndlovu said everyone in Matabeleland South felt very sad. She promised to visit people who were hurt and sent to hospitals in Gwanda and Bulawayo.
Dr Samson Nhanhanga gave $11,000 to help with the funerals. He asked bus drivers to be more careful and drive slower. Insurance companies said they would pay for medical care and funerals. Local business people helped by giving fuel and ambulances.
The hospital doctor, Dr Lenos Samhere, said they have 29 people who survived. Fifteen ladies and fourteen men stay in the hospital. The people who were hurt very badly went to bigger hospitals in Gwanda and Bulawayo.
