Modi hails decade of wildlife revival in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised India’s achievements in wildlife preservation and habitat restoration over the past decade, describing them as a global model for conservation. He commended the Environment and Forest Ministry for driving initiatives that have produced measurable progress in protecting endangered species and promoting ecological balance.

Sharing an article by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on X, Modi highlighted programs such as Amrit Kaal Ka Tiger Vision, Project Snow Leopard, Project Cheetah, and Project Dolphin, calling them symbols of hope for biodiversity. The article coincided with the conclusion of Wildlife Week 2025.

Yadav wrote that India is the first nation to compile a checklist of 102,718 animal species across 10 biogeographic zones. He noted that tiger numbers have increased by more than 30 percent in the past decade, with 3,682 tigers representing approximately 70 percent of the global population.

Wildlife Week 2025 was organized by the Ministry of Environment with the support of the Wildlife Institute of India, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, and Forest Research Institute. Yadav urged stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, emphasizing that protecting wildlife is a shared responsibility crucial to maintaining harmony between people and nature.
