According to fresh predictions from weather experts, rain will continue falling across many parts of the country. They expect heavy downpours to hit areas east and west of the Rift Valley highlands, around Lake Victoria Basin, throughout the Rift Valley, and across the southeastern lowlands. The wet weather should also affect coastal regions and northeastern and northwestern Kenya.
Mary Githinji, representing the Meteorological Services director, released this forecast. She mentioned that daytime temperatures would climb above 30 degrees Celsius along the coast and throughout the northeastern and northwestern regions. Nighttime readings will drop below 10 degrees Celsius across certain highland areas east of the Rift Valley and within central Rift Valley sections.
Morning rainfall should appear in several western highland places near Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley. These areas include counties like Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok. Later afternoon and nighttime showers plus thunderstorms may develop at various spots.
Northwestern counties like Turkana and Samburu can expect morning rain followed by afternoon and evening showers with possible thunderstorms. Similar patterns will affect Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi, where morning rains could lead to scattered afternoon and nighttime thundershowers that might expand to nearby areas.
Northeastern regions, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, face morning rainfall plus afternoon and nighttime thundershowers. The southeastern lowland counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River should prepare for similar conditions that could spread widely. Coastal counties Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and sections of Tana River will see showers throughout morning, afternoon, and night hours.
Githinji reported heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm within 24 hours recently hit Kitui, Makueni, Isiolo, Embu, Murang'a, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Taita Taveta, and West Pokot. The heaviest weekly total reached 155.4mm at the Mayori Rainfall Station in Embu County. The most intense 24-hour downpour happened at the Ivukuvuku Rainfall Station located in Kitui county.
