Mudavadi assures Kenya is not at risk of war with Uganda

Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has assured Parliament that the country maintains its commitment to regional peace and will continue providing ocean access to landlocked neighbors. He dismissed speculation about military tensions with Uganda, stating that Kenya has no intention of engaging in conflict.

During a National Assembly session, Mudavadi responded to concerns raised by Suba South MP Caroli Omondi regarding recent remarks by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni about landlocked nations' entitlement to the Indian Ocean. Mudavadi emphasized that international conventions and African Union agreements govern such arrangements, noting Kenya's consistent support for the safe passage of goods from neighboring countries, including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan.

The cabinet secretary stressed that Kenyan foreign policy remains guided by diplomacy and adherence to international law rather than provocative statements. Museveni had previously compared ocean access to shared compounds in apartment buildings, arguing that landlocked countries should benefit from coastal resources. Mudavadi also provided lighthearted assurance about upcoming inter-parliamentary games in Uganda.
