Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen wants tighter limits on what young people can do. He spoke out Sunday, saying the Gen Z generation cannot simply act however they please. Murkomen believes that freedom without limits creates danger for society and children. He thinks parents must step up and lead their kids down religious paths.
Murkomen shared these thoughts during a church event celebrating AIC Makueni's eighth anniversary in Meru County. He complained about young people mocking leaders online. President William Ruto made similar comments back in January when youth activism against his administration increased on social media. Ruto asked everyone to watch children more closely and fix what he called moral problems.
The president pushed for government agencies and religious groups to work together on youth issues. He stressed that parents must make sure their kids attend class and develop good character instead of bad habits from negative influences. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has also talked about this topic before. He mentioned that many talented young people refuse guidance because they think they already know everything.
Kindiki called this attitude dangerous and wrong. He said talent never replaces the need for mentorship from others with more experience. According to him, every religion, culture, and life philosophy agrees that accepting guidance from others remains essential. He firmly stated that there exist no shortcuts around this basic life principle for anyone.
