President Museveni started a new milk factory called BENNI Foods on Kaguta Road in Kiruhura District. This factory will help process dairy products, fix problems with too much milk in the area, and create jobs for local people.
The President thanked the business people who built the factory in Uganda. He said, "You are most welcome; you are in the right place at the right time. We have big potential here, and once the farmers are taught how to care for their cows properly, we can produce more milk than we do now."
He praised the Ankole people for following his advice about staying in one place and using modern dairy farming methods. He said that when they first came to the area, they talked to the elders, who agreed with their ideas.
President Museveni told farmers to take better care of their cattle. He said they need to plant more grass because cows normally use their tongues to eat grass, but the grass is so short that cows must use their teeth. He warned farmers not to wait for God to solve problems but to take action themselves.
The President promised the government would fix electricity issues by building a special power line for the factory and looking for other ways to help with energy problems in the area.
He urged farmers to work with the Agriculture Ministry to get better cows that can make up to 30 liters of milk each day instead of just 5 liters. He mentioned research on a vaccine for ticks that would kill the ticks when they bite cows instead of harming the animals.
Vice President Jessica Alupo thanked President Museveni for his leadership. She said his work keeping Uganda peaceful has helped businesses do well. She also praised him for starting big projects that help the economy.
Mr. Jitendra, who runs BENNI Foods, said the factory wants to help farmers make more milk than the 100 liters used daily. The factory has hired 73 young people from the area, and more jobs will come as the business grows past its testing phase.
