NEMA warns of surge in vices at Muna IDP camp

Drug abuse, prostitution, and other bad behaviors have spread through the Muna camp for displaced people, NEMA officials warned. The camp houses more than 48,000 people who fled violence in Borno State. North-East leader Abdullahi Sirajo shared these worries during a meeting with camp residents on Wednesday. He asked parents and community heads to work with government officials to stop these problems among young people.

The gathering ended a five-day program teaching disaster readiness and social strength, Sirajo explained through his operations chief, Manir Gidado. Located outside Maiduguri, Muna camp holds about 9,400 families from the Mafa and Dikwa areas who left because of fighting. Residents said social conditions keep getting worse, especially for kids and disabled people.

Nana Aisha, a Mafa community leader, called the situation scary. She said children face bad influences without enough protection. Some parents rely on the money their kids earn without asking how they got it. Many children miss out on school, making it hard for them to tell right from wrong. Abiso Kadi, who represents disabled camp residents, said food shortages make life harder for vulnerable people.
