Nintendo Switch 2 games skip extra downloads

Nintendo has confirmed that physical copies of their Switch 2 Edition games will contain everything needed on the game card without requiring extra downloads. A Nintendo representative told Vooks.net that these special game cards include both the original game and its upgrade pack. Some other companies might sell Switch 2 Edition games as download codes inside physical packaging instead. Players can upgrade several games for $9.99 if they already have the original version. These include Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby titles, and Mario Party Jamboree.

The full price for new buyers ranges from $69.99 to $79.99, depending on the title. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A will also offer upgrades, but prices remain unknown. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the first third-party game offering the $9.99 upgrade path. The company has made clear that Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition does not come with the Expansion Pass DLC. Nintendo has not stated whether these add-ons will be available for individual purchase on the Switch 2 platform.
