Nvidia Sneaks Trimmed RTX 5090 D V2 to China

NVIDIA plans to release a special graphics card just for China. The company will refer to this new product as the GeForce RTX 5090 D V2. Earlier reports claimed the card would have a different name, but those stories turned out to be wrong. Memory problems have stopped NVIDIA from selling this card anywhere else around the world. The graphics giant cannot give enough cards to other companies that want to sell them.

This Chinese version uses a different computer chip than the regular model. The V2 runs on a processor called a GB202-240, instead of the usual GB202-250 chip. NVIDIA cut down the memory from 32 gigabytes to just 24 gigabytes. The memory also works through fewer pathways, dropping from 512 connections to 384 connections. These changes make the card slower at transferring information.

The new card can only handle 1,344 gigabytes of data per second, compared to 1,792 gigabytes on the original version. Even with less memory power, the card still uses the same amount of electricity at 575 watts. Games and programs that require a lot of memory may not run as smoothly on this version. People outside China will not be able to buy this particular model through normal stores. The card keeps the same main processor but trades memory speed for other features that work better in the Chinese market.
