Obi tells Rivers politicians to learn lessons, embrace peace

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi urged Rivers State leaders to pursue harmony following the termination of emergency rule. The politician issued his Thursday statement after President Tinubu ended the six-month suspension affecting Governor Fubara and assembly members. Obi characterized the federal intervention as an unnecessary disruption that violated constitutional principles. He expressed hope that all participants gained valuable insights from the prolonged political crisis. The former Anambra governor emphasized that effective leadership requires acknowledging errors and implementing corrections.

Obi praised Rivers State citizens for maintaining composure during the challenging period. He specifically addressed Governor Fubara and legislative representatives about working together constructively. The Labour Party figure warned that such constitutional violations damage democratic institutions permanently. He stressed that meaningful progress emerges when people learn from difficult experiences. Obi concluded by encouraging political actors to prioritize state development over personal conflicts.
