Omorto Village Welcomes Lifesaving Hospital Project

A big new hospital worth over D20 million broke ground last week in Omorto Village. Governor Ousman Bojang came to start the building work himself. This huge project, called Bantaba 2025/2028, comes from Spanish helpers Superant Frontieres working with Help Them in Gambia. They plan to help people across 32 villages near Kombo East and reach Senegal's Casamance area.

Governor Bojang really wants better health care for country areas. He believes this hospital will help many sick people who live far from doctors. He asked local leaders to keep some empty land ready for good projects like this one. The Governor knows land problems happen a lot but feels strongly that health needs must come first.

Pa Sainey Badjie runs Help Them in Gambia as both Chairman and Ambassador. He wants to improve life not just in Omorto but everywhere in the country. This medical center will bring important services right to people who need them most—shots for kids, help for new moms, and tests for different sicknesses. He talked about training local health workers who can reach distant places. The Spanish group has already given three ambulances to different Gambian hospitals.

Badjie had already brought many good things to Omorto before this hospital. He built a nursery school with houses for teachers that later grew into a primary school. The women in the village also received a garden space through his work. David Mora Barri from the Spanish team thanked everyone for making them feel welcome. Their two-year plan aims to strengthen the whole community.

The new building will house visiting experts who will teach local doctors, nurses, and other workers. Chief Bakary Sanyang says rural areas desperately need this health center, where supplies often run short. He calls it "a vital first point" for basic care. Ousman Bah, the local Councillor, agrees about its importance. But perhaps most happy of all are the women of Omorto. Their leader, Habi Badjie, thanked everyone deeply, saying women have struggled during childbirth without proper medical help nearby. This new hospital will fix that problem quickly.
