Orange pours €1B yearly into Africa, Mideast digital push

Orange Group invests more than one billion euros each year to expand digital networks across Africa and the Middle East. The telecommunications company targets 520 million mobile users while addressing connectivity gaps that affect millions without broadband access. Network expansion focuses on achieving 85 percent 4G coverage by 2025 alongside fiber optic growth. Fixed broadband customers increased 27 percent between 2021 and 2023, reaching 3.3 million subscribers. Energy consumption management accompanies infrastructure development to ensure sustainable operations.

The company operates five Orange 5G Labs after launching services in Botswana, Jordan, and Senegal. These innovation centers allow local partners to test new applications and technologies. Orange plans for half of regional smartphone sales to support 5G by 2026. Rural connectivity initiatives will add 15,000 solar-powered sites over three years to serve 70 million people without internet. Pan-African infrastructure investments range from 100 million to 200 million euros annually for projects like the Djoliba fiber network.
