Pakistan govt fails Hajj hopefuls, begs Saudis for more spots

Sardar Muhammad Yousaf delivered remarks at a reception held at Darul Uloom Mansehra, where he emphasized that assisting Hajj pilgrims constitutes an act of worship. The Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony described sincere efforts toward public welfare as forms of devotion. He outlined major reforms implemented under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's administration to enhance the pilgrimage experience for Pakistani citizens. The minister acknowledged that correcting previous governments' deficiencies in Hajj management presented considerable difficulties. Prime Minister Sharif's direct involvement facilitated meaningful progress across multiple service areas.

These improvements resulted in better pilgrim accommodations, which earned recognition from Saudi authorities through an Excellence Award. Yousaf characterized this achievement as a source of pride for Pakistan and the broader Muslim community worldwide. The ministry has regained public confidence, demonstrated by record-breaking registration numbers exceeding 450,000 applications for this year's Hajj season. Pakistani officials have formally requested that Saudi Arabia expand the country's Hajj allocation to 230,000 spots based on population proportions. Saudi administrators are developing digital systems to streamline future Hajj management processes and deliver more efficient pilgrim services.
