Paul Put signs contract extension with Uganda Cranes to 2028

Uganda extended head coach Paul Put's contract through 2028, the nation's football federation confirmed Wednesday. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations secured Put's leadership ahead of hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Chief executive Edgar Watson stated the agreement ended public uncertainty about the national team's direction. Put will manage Uganda's senior squad, local championship team, and under-23 side during this period.

Federation vice president Justus Mugisha cited Put's achievements, including near qualification for the last World Cup and a record African Nations Championship quarterfinal appearance. The Belgian coach thanked federation leaders and fans for their trust, calling Uganda a welcoming environment. His immediate schedule includes friendlies against Chad later this month and Morocco in November 2025. Put emphasized building team unity and consistent performance as priorities moving forward. Government officials received specific acknowledgment for supporting football development programs.
