Petkov resignation cover-up, experts say, accountability needed

Diana Damyanova called Kiril Petkov's resignation a cover-up attempt. The PR expert helped create the We Continue the Change party and gave it its name. She told Bulgarian National Radio that someone else leads the real operation behind recent problems. Damyanova refused to guess who might be responsible for the scandal. She believes the entire party leadership should step down if everyone knew about questionable fundraising methods.

The party founder described We Continue the Change as an upside-down pyramid. Petkov holds up the entire structure at the top. Damyanova cannot predict what happens to all the loyal supporters without their leader. She thinks the resignation seems excessive if other leaders did not know about the fundraising issues. The party structure creates serious problems when key figures leave.

Journalist Vesselin Stoynev agreed that Petkov had to resign. He argued the departure does not fix the main problem facing the party. Small groups making decisions without proper party structure create vulnerability to attacks. Stoynev said opponents can easily target parties that lack strong organization. He believes real change fighters need better internal systems to avoid corruption accusations.

Both experts agreed that Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov's government faces no real threats. President Rumen Radev's attempts to interfere actually bring opposing parties closer together. Boyko Borisov, Delyan Peevski, BSP and ITN benefit from avoiding early elections. The current coalition wants to reach January and complete eurozone entry plans before making major changes.
