Petty thief gets a whole month of hard labor for a few bucks

Guy gets nailed for a heist after his own neighbors drop a dime. A court in Tarkwa sentenced Francis Kwofie to a month of hard labor for theft. The thirty-one-year-old illegal miner copped a guilty plea. Police Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah presented the case before Magistrate Charles Owusu Nsiah.

The complainant, mechanic Mustapha Awudu, worked at the Bogoso junction. Kwofie was employed at Pitson Mines. Both men lived in the Essamang Kakraba area. The mechanic's spouse contacted him to report a break-in at their residence.

Their room had been totally ransacked. A sum of one thousand three hundred Ghana cedis disappeared from a wardrobe. The total amount stored there was two thousand one hundred cedis. A relative of Awudu later provided a tip about Kwofie's visit.

The visitor had asked to borrow money. Other tenants and locals described Kwofie's pattern of stealing from homes and job sites. This information convinced the mechanic of his guilt. Awudu then went to the miner's home to confront him.

Kwofie was not present initially, so a message was left for him. He later appeared at Awudu's house and denied taking any cash. After making several phone calls, Kwofie offered to settle the matter financially. Awudu remained unsatisfied and took him to the Tarkwa police station.
