Plumtree man Tafirei Ndlovu jailed for life for in-laws axe murder

A Zimbabwean court convicted Tafirei Ndlovu of murdering his in-laws and sentenced him to two consecutive life prison terms. The Bulawayo High Court heard evidence that Ndlovu killed Xolani Mpofu and Sibalungele Ncube with an axe before incinerating their remains in a kitchen hut. The double homicide occurred on April 14, 2022, at approximately 2:00 AM while his wife witnessed the attack. Ndlovu had previously contacted his mother-in-law expressing desire to reconcile with his spouse, who had returned to her parents following marital problems. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe confirmed the brutal nature of the assault and subsequent burning.

Following the murders, Ndlovu enlisted accomplice Kudzani Mathukutha to kidnap his wife and force her across the Botswana border. The woman managed to alert patrolling border officers about her abduction and her parents' deaths. Authorities apprehended Ndlovu during his attempted escape, though Mathukutha evaded capture. The Plumtree resident had initially planned to flee to Botswana immediately after committing the crimes. Border patrol officers intercepted him before he could complete his escape plan.
