Police disperse dismissed BDR sit-in at Kakrail Mosque intersection

Police blasted water cannons at angry former soldiers who blocked traffic near a busy mosque. The dismissed border guards had camped out at Kakrail intersection since early Monday morning. They wanted three things from the government and tried marching toward the Chief Adviser's house. Cops also fired loud sound bombs to scatter the crowd of protesters. The demonstration caused major traffic jams around the area.

The former Bangladesh Rifles members refuse to give up their fight for justice. They lost their jobs after the deadly 2009 army rebellion that shocked the nation. These ex-soldiers keep demanding their old positions back from authorities. They also want lawyers to help them fight legal battles in court. The group believes the government owes them money for unfair treatment.

Law enforcement officers have not explained why they used force against the protesters. Nobody knows if police arrested any of the demonstrators during the confrontation. The authorities stayed silent about the whole incident on Monday. Security forces have added more guards around the protest zone. Officials worry about more trouble breaking out near government buildings.

This protest continues a long battle between dismissed soldiers and the state. The former border guards claim they were treated unfairly after the mutiny ended. They have staged many demonstrations over the past several years. Each time they demand the same basic things from leaders. The cycle of protests and police action keeps repeating across the capital city.
