President Museveni Urges Sports Fraternity to Partner with Health Ministry for Public Health Awareness

President Yoweri Museveni hosted Uganda's top sports teams at State House Entebbe on Wednesday. The celebration honored three national squads that achieved major victories on international stages. Uganda's Under-17 men's football team made history as the first national squad to reach a FIFA World Cup. The women's basketball team won the FIBA AfroBasket Zone 5 Championships held in Egypt. The women's rugby team captured the Rugby Africa Cup Division 1 tournament in Côte d'Ivoire.

Museveni urged athletes to work with health officials on nutrition education programs. He said families need better knowledge about feeding children proper foods beyond basic meals. Radio broadcasts every two weeks could teach communities about proteins and healthy eating habits. The president emphasized that well-fed populations produce stronger athletes naturally. Uganda has barely started using its full sports potential according to the leader.

First Lady Janet Museveni praised the teams for raising Uganda's profile globally. She credited the nation's peace and stability for creating conditions where athletes can succeed. The education minister stressed that discipline and moral values remain essential for lasting success. She warned young athletes against substance abuse and other harmful behaviors. Government funding through the National Council of Sports helped make these achievements possible.

The president noted Uganda's diverse geography creates different athletic strengths across regions. Mountain areas produce runners with strong lungs and muscles for endurance events. Lowland regions develop powerful middle-distance competitors naturally. Peace and expanded education systems helped reveal hidden talent throughout the country.
