PURA praised for 94 percent success

Tanzania's petroleum regulator completed 94 percent of its performance objectives in the 2024-25 fiscal year, union officials announced on Monday. Amani Msuya, from the Tanzania Union of Government and Health Employees, praised the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority after reviewing the results at a staff meeting in Morogoro.

The authority tracks achievements through the Performance Evaluation Monitoring System, which recorded a 94.46 percent completion rate. Director General Charles Sangweni pledged continued professionalism and innovation while urging employees to submit timely performance reports for promotion decisions.

PURA advises the Energy Ministry on petroleum licensing, monitors industry operations, and regulates liquefied natural gas exports. The regulator also evaluates frontier exploration zones and disseminates petroleum production data across Tanzania's energy sector.
