Ramaphosa calls the local industry to build South Africa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that South Africa's construction sector is positioned to lead economic growth and job creation, backed by a government infrastructure commitment of one trillion rand. He stated that the industry must transform the nation into an active construction zone to address historical inequities and build critical infrastructure like roads, schools, and hospitals.

Speaking at the Second Annual National Construction Summit in Gauteng, Ramaphosa highlighted recent labor data showing the industry generated 130,000 new jobs in one quarter. He emphasized that infrastructure development serves as a foundation for opportunity and a driver for social transformation. To support this, the government is shifting budgetary expenditure toward capital investment and has introduced regulatory changes to attract greater private sector participation.

The President also issued a strong warning against disruptive elements, vowing that law enforcement would deal decisively with construction mafias and infrastructure vandals. He outlined the South African Construction Action Plan as a framework for ensuring project accountability and timely completion, which includes measures to prevent underperforming contractors from receiving new state contracts.
