Rocket Lab's Peter Beck says his Neutron won't be rubbish like Starship

Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck criticized SpaceX during recent earnings discussions for setting low expectations during their first Starship test. SpaceX defined success as merely clearing the launch pad for their April 2023 flight attempt. The massive rocket experienced failure when its upper stage could not separate from the Super Heavy booster. Flight termination systems destroyed the vehicle four minutes after liftoff.

Beck announced that Rocket Lab expects different standards for their upcoming Neutron rocket debut. The company plans to launch Neutron during the second half of 2025 with orbital insertion as the primary goal. Neutron generates 6,600 kilonewtons of thrust compared to Falcon 9's 7,600 kilonewtons. Beck dismissed pad clearance as an adequate measure of achievement. Rocket Lab aims to establish a reliable infrastructure for sustained production and multiple launches beyond the inaugural flight.
