Ruparelia Son Dies in Fiery Supercar Crash

Rajiv Ruparelia died when his sports car crashed early Saturday morning in Kampala. Police said the 35-year-old businessman was alone when his white Nissan GTR flipped over and burst into flames at the Busabala flyover around 2 am. Nobody could save him as fire spread through the vehicle.

Police reports show Ruparelia drove one of the fastest cars in Uganda, capable of speeds up to 380 km/h. He ran the Ruparelia Group of Companies and loved motorsports. He started the Ruparelia Rally Team and often raced in competitions across the country.

Family spokesperson Andrew Mwenda said Ruparelia had just returned from London to attend a friend's wedding scheduled for Saturday. He was heading from his Kololo home to Munyonyo to join the wedding party when the accident happened. The family has not decided whether to follow Hindu tradition with cremation or use Ugandan burial customs. They await relatives from London and India before making final arrangements.
