Russia backs Sudan and seals jaw-dropping naval base pact

A man from Sudan went to Russia to talk with Russian leaders this week. Mr. Lavrov, who helps run Russia, said his country wants to make things better in Sudan. He told Sudan's leader, Mr. Al-Sharif, that Russia will work with other countries to bring peace.

The two leaders discussed many important things. They made plans for Russia to build a special place for their ships in Sudan. Mr. Al-Sharif said they agreed on everything about this new sea base during their meeting on Wednesday.

Mr. Lavrov talked about how some countries tried to stop Russia from working with African friends. He said Russia found ways to keep helping Africa anyway. He thinks the other countries broke their own rules about working together fairly. These countries changed everything very quickly, and Mr. Lavrov said they ruined the way the world used to work together.

Mr. Lavrov believes countries need new ways to send things to each other and keep their money safe. He said people might start using special computer money more than regular money. The old way of doing things doesn't work anymore because some countries stopped following the rules they made.

The Russian leader also worried about fighting between Israel and Hamas. He heard that Israel might start fighting again if Hamas doesn't free some people by Saturday afternoon. Mr. Lavrov said this would make him very sad. He and his friends are trying very hard to stop more fighting from happening.

Sudan needs help because two groups have been fighting since April 2023: the regular army and another group called RSF. Doctors say many people might become sick because the fighting makes it hard for hospitals to help them. Some people hope the fighting will stop next year.
