President Ruto said he helped former Deputy President Gachagua avoid impeachment twice. He tried giving Gachagua several chances to fix what he described as minor arguments. According to Ruto, Gachagua kept starting fights with lawmakers and other important State House officials.
At a media meeting, Ruto mentioned how he stepped in when lawmakers first rejected Gachagua but accepted him anyway. Later, when they tried removing him again, Ruto intervened. He asked if his election meant serving just one person or all citizens. Ruto stressed that regular Kenyans decide how well leaders perform, saying all authority comes from the public.
He believes politicians should focus less on their personal problems and more on improving the lives of everyday citizens. These comments came Monday from Nyeri State Lodge as part of his trip through central Kenya. Gachagua became the first deputy president to be removed through impeachment last October.
The Senate found him guilty of at least five different charges. They included problems with company ownership, interfering with judges, breaking unity laws, and publicly attacking intelligence agencies. MP Mwengi Mutuse from Kibwezi West brought the case forward in Parliament. When voting finished, 281 representatives wanted Gachagua gone compared to just 44 trying to save him.
Mutuse actually listed eleven separate complaints against the deputy president. During his recent appearance, Ruto clearly stated that politicians from Mt Kenya decided to remove Gachagua. He explained that these officials followed proper legal procedures, mentioning that his signature appears nowhere on removal documents.
