Rwanda Marks 31 Years of Liberation with Peace and Growth Drive

Rwanda marked its biggest national holiday on July 4th as the country celebrated Liberation Day. The annual event honors the day when the Rwandan Patriotic Front kicked out the genocidal government back in 1994. Ambassador James Musoni told crowds that President Paul Kagame has turned the nation around completely. The country has become united and peaceful under his leadership. Rwanda's people can expect to live until age 70 compared to just 64 years across the rest of Africa.

The transformation has been remarkable according to officials from Zimbabwe who attended the celebration. Foreign Minister Amon Murwira praised how Rwanda bounced back from the terrible genocide three decades ago. The country has climbed to 38th place worldwide for business friendliness. Rwanda also claims the second spot across all of Africa for companies wanting to set up shop. This success comes from smart economic programs that have lifted people out of poverty.

Rwanda has become a major player on the world stage when it comes to keeping peace. The small African nation sends the fifth most troops to United Nations peacekeeping missions around the globe. Among African countries, Rwanda ranks second for contributing soldiers to these important missions. Zimbabwe and Rwanda plan to hold their third major cooperation meeting soon to boost trade between the two nations. Both countries back each other at international meetings and support various environmental agreements.
