Samsung bets on 1nm chips to catch up with TSMC

Samsung wants to make super tiny 1nm chips starting in 2029. They're skipping ahead despite problems with their current 3nm and 2nm tech. A special team will handle this next-gen technology when production begins six years from today. Their recent GAA processes haven't worked as well as expected, causing delays for the 2nm node until 2025. Rival company TSMC already accepts orders for 2nm chips, putting Samsung under pressure.

Earlier this year, rumors suggested that Samsung had abandoned its 1.4nm process plans to focus on 2nm development. But apparently, they're charging full steam ahead toward 1nm instead. The company needs to buy advanced EUV equipment as part of this ambitious project. Success could mean Samsung produces some of the most efficient chips anywhere, helping it compete against TSMC. Though unofficial information, these plans show Samsung taking bold risks to stay relevant long-term.
